Mistletoe by Beth

Mistletoe - Beth

“Hey, Chief...see what I’ve found!” yelled Jim as he spun around on his heel with a huge grin plastered all over his face.

“Oh man, no way...you are soooo NOT putting that up again this year.”

“Why not?” whined the detective.

Because I can’t stand watching you kiss someone else thought Blair, but instead, he said. “Remember last year?”

“Wh? Oh yeah....well don’t worry about that, Chief. I’m sure Megan won’t make come to bed eyes at you again, she knows you’re not interested, besides; who can forget Simon’s face when I planted one on him.”

We both grinned at the memory, it hadn’t gone down well with Simon at the time, and Jim had paid for it tenfold with his caseload for the next month, but it’d been worth it for the snapshot alone. Simon would never live that one down, and Jim wouldn’t let him. “Where is that photo anyway?” asked Jim.

“It’s in the box over there with all the Christmas cards from last year.”

I couldn’t help but grin as I watched Jim walk over to the box, mistletoe still in hand. “I wonder what Simon would do if I took this down to the PD and put it up on the notice board.”

“He’d kill you!” I squealed.

Jim grinned and said. “Yeah, you’re right, maybe not then. We’ll put it up here instead; somewhere that’ll jump out at him when he comes over for poker night.”

“That’s a much better idea. He’ll still hit the roof but at least you’ll live.”

“Right...coz I don’t wanna die just yet. I haven’t had any Christmas kisses.”

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at him. “And just how many are you planning on grabbing this year?”

“Just the one.”

“Who’s that then?”

“Now, that would be telling...” replied Jim with a sparkle in his eye, and a huge grin on his face.

Even though I knew he was just teasing me, I couldn’t help myself and snapped back in frustration. “Just put the mistletoe up and then you can ogle over every woman that comes through the door, whether you bring her home with you or I do. It’s all fair game to you isn’t it, Jim.”

“Whoa, whoa, just wait a god-damn minute there, Chief. What the hell brought that on?”

“Oh forget it! Just put the damn mistletoe up and let’s finish decorating the tree.”

“No way! We’re talking about this, and we’re talking about it now.” ranted Jim.

“There’s nothing to talk about.” I stated bluntly.

“Look, I know I kissed a couple of the girls you brought home last year and judging from what you’ve just said it obviously pissed you off, but it was all in good fun, Chief. I thought you knew that, but no problem. I’ll keep my distance from now on.”

He didn’t get it, I mean, why would he? I didn’t give a damn about him kissing those girls last year, well ok, yeah, at the time it had pissed me off, but now all I wanted was him and the thought of him kissing anyone apart from me was killing me. Of course I couldn’t say that, so instead, I ignored him.

“Let’s just finish this up, ok?” I snapped back.

For a second I thought he was going to push it, but instead he shoved the mistletoe angrily into his pocket and went back to the tree. In silence we finished putting up the rest of the decorations, and then sat down for the night in front of the TV. Occasionally I stole a quick glance at him, I’m sure he saw me, but he never said anything and by the end of the night you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. I was glad when 10 o’clock hit and he announced he was going to bed. Naomi brought me up with the saying ‘don’t go to bed on an argument’ though, so as Jim got up to turn the TV off I said. “I’m sorry about before. It’s just...”

“It’s ok, Chief. I get it. I stepped over the line. I won’t do it again.”

“No, Jim. It’s not ok. I, I, shouldn’t have gone off on you like that.”

“I deserved it.”

“No, no you didn’t.”

“I was purposefully teasing you, Sandburg.”

“I know. I just wanted to know who you were attracted to that’s all. I don’t get it man, you’ve always told me before; why can’t you tell me now?”

“It’s different this time, Chief.”

“It just is,” he said poignantly.

“Oh wait. I get it now. You’re in love.” I joked, even though the words clutched at my heart and the mere thought of it took my breath away.

He blushed momentarily and opened his mouth to speak, but hesitated as he looked down at me. “It’s ok man, you don’t need to tell me who it is.”

“It’s you,” he announced timidly.

Stunned, I looked up him. “What?”

For an instant I thought he was going to take it back, he looked terrified; but then he slowly put his hand in his pocket and pulled out the mistletoe that had started this all off. He took a deep breath; then held it high above his head with one hand, while he offered me the other one.

“Well, do I get one?” he asked nervously.

I couldn’t stop the big cheesy grin that spread across my face as I took his hand and allowed him to pull me close.

“What do you think?” I replied seductively.

A huge smile spread across his face and I felt my heart skip a beat. He dropped the mistletoe on the love seat and started to apologise about teasing me, but I didn’t want words, I wanted him, so I pressed my fingers against his lips to silence him. At first, he kissed them softly but then he let his tongue explore and it began to glide up and down my fingers, forcing its way through them as he licked them provocatively. The sensation sent shivers up and down my spine and I instinctively pushed them into his mouth, allowing him to taste a little part of me as I huskily said. “Stop teasing me, Jim.”

Before I had a chance to say or do anything else, he pulled me up tight against him. His body so close I could feel his arousal stirring as he removed his fingers from my mouth and ran them tenderly down my face. His eyes glinted with pleasure and I found myself drowning in their depths as he leaned in closer and whispered breathlessly into my ear. “I want you, Chief. I’ve wanted you for so long.” My heart soared at his words but my knees buckled with the declaration and Jim grunted happily. He suckled on my ear as his free hand slowly made its way up my back and through my hair, he played with the soft curls as he made his way up, until finally his hand came to rest and he pulled me in for a kiss.

As soon as our lips touched, I felt the world around me disappear and I became jelly in his arms. His mouth was so hot with desire, I found myself yearning for more. As he deepened the kiss, his tongue slowly brushed against mine and I couldn’t stop myself from pulling him closer as I mindlessly ran my fingers through his hair. Jim waited patiently for permission to delve deeper and once it was given, he thrust his tongue in more urgently and then, they excitedly dueled against each other.

When he finally pulled away I felt empty inside, like a piece of me was missing. I looked deep into his eyes and smiled lovingly at him as I said. “I love you so much, Jim.”

He smiled back at me and dropped soft, gentle kisses across my neck as he declared. “I love you too, Blair.”

The end....
