Trouble - Patt

I don’t know if it’s just me, but Jim seems to be overly dense these days. He doesn’t seem to understand anything I say. He’s going out of his way to irritate me I think. I can’t be certain, he might just be stupid. That wasn’t nice of me to think, was it? He’s not stupid, just can’t see what’s in front of his face. As an example, let me tell you about today.

Jim walked into the bullpen and asked me if I wanted to go to lunch. That would be fine normally, but it was only ten o’clock in the morning. We had just finished having a Danish. I decided to figure out why he was acting so frigging weird.

“So why are you asking me to lunch at 10:00 in the morning?” I asked him.

“I didn’t want you to have any other plans. I decided to ask first,” Jim answered.

This would be a great answer if it was true. We go to lunch together every single day, so he was lying for some reason. Why would he lie?

“Jim, I always go to lunch with you, and you know it,” I reminded him.

“I don’t know why you’re making such a big thing out of it. If we go to lunch every day together, then it shouldn’t be a problem.” Jim was trying to make sense, but he wasn’t. I knew something was up.

He sat down at his desk and began typing his report into the computer and I did the same thing. Every now and then I glanced over at him and he would be staring at me.

I pushed my chair over towards his and whispered, “Do I have something on my face?”

Jim started to laugh. He had a good laugh and it came out easily. He looked relieved to have me make a joke about it. Why?

I was busily typing away at my desk when Martha Carter showed up and said, “Blair how would you like to have lunch with me today?” Did I mention how gorgeous Martha Carter is and how many of the guys would kill to have a lunch date with her?

I smiled at her and said, “Sorry, I already have plans. Thanks anyhow.”

She looked really disappointed and I was tempted for about two seconds to turn to Jim and tell him our lunch was off. However I realized that this is why Jim had asked me to lunch that morning. Jim must have overheard Martha and wanted me to go with him instead. Why?

“I’ll ask you another day, would that be all right?” Martha asked, not really deterred at all.

I smiled that million-dollar Sandburg smile and said, “Sure.”

She walked out of the room and I swear Jim smiled as she walked into the elevator. However when he looked over at me, the smile disappeared.

“Chief, if you wanted to go with her, you could have told me.” Jim was trying to be thoughtful, but I could tell he didn’t really mean it.

“Nah, that’s all right. She’s going to ask me another day. She’s hot isn’t she?” I asked him.

“I guess, if you like that sort of woman,” Jim replied.

I rolled my eyes and said, “Who wouldn’t love to be with that woman. She’s gorgeous and she’s nice on top of it.”

“Then I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time when she asks you again. Now let’s get our work done so we can leave here at noon.” Jim loved bossing me around, I think it gave him some sort of sick thrill. He knew he really wasn’t in control but liked to pretend he was. I found it very cute.

If I didn’t know better, I would say Jim Ellison was jealous of Martha Carter. But that couldn’t be could it?

Jim sometimes had a hard time talking about things and I had a feeling this was going to be one of those times. I was going to get him to open up if it was the last thing I did.

I think that both of us needed a class in understanding the feelings of the other one. I think we’re clueless.

[[[[[ ]]]]]

Jim ended up taking me to my favorite Chinese restaurant, where he ordered off the menu for both of us. It was very cute. Now I just had to get him talking.

“So what’s going on, man? I feel like something is on your mind today. Open up and let me in,” I said as casually as I could.

“There’s nothing wrong, if that’s what you mean. I just felt like having lunch with you today.” Jim took a big long drink of his iced tea and I couldn’t help but notice as he swallowed, he had a damn fine neck and Adams Apple. I was having a hard time concentrating while looking at him.

“Chief, did you just zone on me?” Jim asked seriously.

“I was thinking,” I answered quickly.

“Well, sometimes thinking is better if you share with someone else,” Jim offered.

“Nah, it’s nothing. Just thinking about Martha is all. I can’t believe she asked me out. Can you?” I had to ask it. It was sitting there between us and I had to know.

Jim smiled and answered, “I don’t know why you would think she wouldn’t ask you out. You’re a fine man and a fine catch. She’d be lucky to date you.”

“I feel a little shallow because the only reason I would go out with her is because I’d want to sleep with someone that gorgeous and see if they were much different than an average person.”

Jim’s mouth was hanging open and he tried to say something twice, but finally just shut his mouth and didn’t respond at all.

“Haven’t you ever wondered what it would be like to sleep with Martha?” I asked, hoping to get him to talk a little more.

“She’s not my type,” Jim responded.

“Oh that’s right, she’s not a red head and she’s not a criminal,” I had to tease him, it was as simple as that.

“Very funny, Sandburg. She really isn’t my type. I don’t find her attractive at all.” Jim looked grateful when the food arrived at the table. He began to eat immediately.

I took a few bites of my lunch, which was excellent and said, “So who is your type.”

“She’s too tall,” Jim stated flatly.

“Jim, she’s only 5’ 10. She’s still shorter than you,” I reminded him.

“I don’t like her hair. It’s too lifeless and straight. I like some body to a person’s hair,” Jim continued.

“What else don’t you like about her?” I asked, honestly wanted to know why she wouldn’t appeal to him. Rafe and Brown would give their left nut to go out with her.

“She’s too skinny and I think her boobs aren’t real. They’re way too large and she thinks that all men will go crazy over her because of them,” Jim explained.

“Man, tell me you can’t tell if she’s had a boob job? That’s just wrong on so many levels.”

“You’re the one that asked me what was wrong with her. I’m just telling you what I see differently then you do,” Jim said.

“So you’re telling me that if she asked you out, you would turn her down?” I had to know.

“Yes, I would turn her down. She’s not my type and stop snickering or I’m smack you upside the head.”

“You’ve been watching NCIS far too long. If you ever smack me on the back of the head, I’ll kick you in the balls.” Try saying that with a straight face.

“You know I would just be teasing if I did smack your head, right?” Jim asked.

“Well, let’s not try it and see, shall we? So tell me Jim, what is your type?” I couldn’t wait to hear what he had to say to this.

“About 5’ 7’’, long hair with curls in it to give it some body and a personality like no one else. That’s my type.” Jim continued to eat.

I almost swallowed my food without chewing it. He was describing me. I knew he was. And he wouldn’t look at me after he said it. He was embarrassed. Now what should I do about this?

I finally got my voice back after I swallowed the food whole and said, “You’ve never dated anyone like that. Ever…”

“People change, Blair. They like different things, at different times in their life.” Jim said it like it didn’t mean that much, but I knew it did.

“So like two weeks from now, it might be a six foot blond that you prefer?” Again I had to ask. I know exactly how to push his buttons.

“No, I think I’m looking for something serious in my life now and I’m not changing my mind about it.” Jim still hadn’t looked at me since he told me his type. Isn’t he cute, he’s embarrassed?

“I’m not sure where I am in my life. I’ve been thinking about dating men. Would that bother you?” I whispered, Sentinel soft.

I swear to God, Jim almost swallowed his straw from his drink. The look on his face was pure panic.

“No, it wouldn’t bother me. I didn’t know you played both sides,” Jim said as softly as I had brought it up.

“Yeah, I have. I’ve had an urge to date a guy lately and I was hoping to talk to you about it first,” I admitted.

“An urge? So you have someone in mind?” Jim asked getting his voice back a little bit.

“Haven’t you ever wanted someone that you knew you couldn’t have?” I asked him.

I couldn’t believe that’s all he said. He was going to be trouble, it was as simple as that.

“So Jim, tell me who you ever had a thing for and were afraid to ask out.”

“I’m not doing a show and tell here, Sandburg. If you want to date a guy, go ahead. But don’t expect me to add anything to the conversation. I’ve got nothing to add.” Jim almost sounded angry.

I was smiling and that pissed Jim off even more. “So you’ve never been with a guy before?”

“How did this get turned around to me dating men?” Jim asked me quickly.

“Just answer the question. Have you? Dated a man, I mean?” I looked into his eyes to let him know he could tell me anything.

“Yeah, I’ve dated a guy before. I don’t want to talk about it,” Jim pushed his half-finished lunch away from him and I felt bad for ruining his lunch.

“So how do I approach this guy that I think is unattainable?” I asked him hoping that he would open up a little about him dating guys. He sure wasn’t much of a talker.

“First find out if the guy swings both ways. Don’t ask someone you think is straight, because he might punch your lights out. And I would be very pissed off if someone punched you out.”

He was so cute sometimes. He was worried about me. He had no idea that the man was him. He was such a dummy. Stupid and cute. What a wonderful combination.

“Oh I wouldn’t ask him out until I got some vibes from him,” I said.

“Your idea of vibes and someone else’s, might be two different things. Promise me you’ll talk to me first about asking this person out.”

I couldn’t believe it. Jim was willing to help me find a guy. He’s such a nice man. A stupid man, but so sweet. I love the lug.

“I promise to talk to you first. I’m not making any moves any time soon. I’ve got some thinking to do about it first. In the mean time, would you like to double date with Martha Carter and someone of your choice?”

Jim looked at me like I had flipped my lid. “No, I’m not going out with you and Martha. I thought you wanted to date a guy.”

“Oh I do. But she’s Martha Carter. Think of the new found respect I would get from Rafe and Brown,” I smiled over at him and hoped he would see I was teasing.

“You know what? Do whatever you want. I’m going back to the bullpen. You sit here and think about the guy and Martha Carter. You’re nuts.” Jim got up and threw money on the table and stormed out of the restaurant.

I looked at the amount and saw that he put enough for both of us. Have I mentioned how stupid this man can be? He treated me to lunch and still doesn’t have a clue as to how I feel about him. I had some thinking to do myself, so I finished my lunch and walked back to the station house.

[[[[[ ]]]]]

When I got back to my desk, Jim was busy working. I decided to do a little Jim watching on the sly. Whenever he wasn’t watching me, I was watching him. It almost felt like a game between the two of us. I noticed for a long while that Jim liked to watch me and he also liked touching me. He never touches anyone else in the bullpen like he does me.

I watched as he was typing up a report into the computer and saw his handsome face get very serious. He looked over at me and I smiled.

He rolled his chair over and said, “Do I have something on my face?”

“Touché.” I think I’ve mentioned how cute he is and how fun he is too. I can overlook the stupid part, because I can teach him.

“What are you staring at?” Jim asked me.

“I’m sorry I made you mad at lunch today. I’m not going to date Martha Carter. I never was I was just trying to yank your chain.”

“Apology accepted. Do you have the McNeeley file done yet?” Jim asked me sounding serious.

“Yes, I double checked everything so McNeeley isn’t going to be getting off without paying. Everything is going to stick this time. We did it all by the book and we got him hands down. Don’t worry, Jim, I know what I’m doing.”

“I’m glad to hear you have it finished. Maybe you should take it into Simon’s office because he’ll want to go over everything with you.”

“Good idea. I’ll take it in now. What are you working on?” I asked as I got everything together for Simon to look over.

“I’m working on a boring purse snatching case from last week. You know the one that I had to chase for ten blocks. That little prick is going to go down for it.”

“Tell me how you really feel, Jim.” I got up smiling and walked over to Simon’s door and knocked. He motioned me in and I walked in and set the papers on his desk and sat down and waited for him to look at them.

“You have it done already? Did you double check everything, Sandburg?”

“Yes, Simon, I did. Read through it out loud and we’ll double check together.”

Simon sat down and started to read the file out loud. He came across a few things that he raised his eyebrow on and I finally said, “What? What’s wrong with it?”

“Nothing is wrong with it, you just know how to word things much better then the rest of us. This is perfect. I’m glad I put you on this case.” Simon confessed, pleasing me to no end.

“Thank you, man.” As Simon continued to read it out loud, I watched Jim through the doorway. He was so handsome and had such strong features, that he really should have been in paintings or something. His face was that perfect. I loved watching him. Suddenly, Jim looked through the doorway and caught me watching him and smiled at me. The dummy just thought I was staring at my friend, he didn’t have a clue as to why I was staring at him.

“Sandburg, you still in the room?” Simon asked.

“Sorry, sir. What did you say?”

“I said the paper looked perfect and you can leave now. I’ll take it over to the DA’s office and get it squared away. You did make copies and backed it up on the computer, right?”

“Simon, do I look dumb? Of course I did all of that. Everything is covered.”

“Kid, why don’t you just ask him out and see if he says yes.”

I almost swallowed my tongue. There was nothing left to swallow. I coughed and coughed and Simon hit me on the back.

“I promise you, he’ll say yes,” Simon said softly.

“I know that, Simon. But I have to be sure before I ask.” I stood up and left his office to him mumbling about stupid Guides and Sentinels.

I sat down at my desk and Jim said, “How did it go?”

“He said it was perfect. “

It’s funny he used that word, since I had used that word in my head at the same moment. But mine was about Jim, not the paper.

“I knew you would do a great job. Piece of cake,” Jim beamed with pride.

I didn’t think Jim could get any cuter, but he just went up the scale another notch. There weren’t many notches left. I was going to have to break down and talk to the man.

“Thanks, Jim. I’m glad you have so much faith in me.”

“Faith and good sense. That’s me.” Jim teased himself.

Both of us went back to work and before long it was almost time to go home.

Martha Carter walked into the bullpen and Rafe and Brown were all over her. She dissed them and walked up to my desk and said, “I was wondering if we could go to a movie tonight and maybe catch a late dinner.”

“Sorry, Martha, I have plans tonight. Thank you for thinking of me, though.” I had to admit, I loved the jealous look on Jim’s face. This was worth it.

“Okay, another night?” Martha asked hopefully.

“No, I don’t think so.” I answered regrettably.

“Well have a nice night.” And just like that she was gone.

Rafe walked over and said, “What the fuck is wrong with you? You just said no to one of the most gorgeous women in the station house. Are you nuts?”

I smiled and said, “No, I just don’t think that much of her. She’s not my type.”

Brown started to laugh and said, “Hairboy, every woman is your type. What’s wrong?”

“Like I would talk to you about anything,” I said as I grabbed my jacket and walked over to the elevator.

Conner came by and said, “Sandy, did I just hear you turned down Martha Carter?”

“Yes, I turned down Martha Carter. Do you people have nothing else to do but wonder about my sex life?” I started pushing the button over and over again.

Jim walked up and said, “I for one think that he showed a lot of class. He didn’t need to prove anything to anyone. He didn’t need another notch in his belt.”

Brown and Rafe burst out laughing and walked away talking about how stupid I was. Jim acted like he was torn between getting on the elevator or going after Brown and Rafe.

“Come on man, let’s go home,” I said as we got on.

[[[[[ ]]]]]

The ride home was quiet and I almost fell asleep at one point. I realized that I had stayed up most of the night doing that report. It worked out well, I did a great job on it, but I was exhausted.

“Take a little nap, Sandburg. I’ll wake you when we get home,” Jim said sweetly.

“Thanks, man.” And just like that, I was out.

[[[[[ ]]]]]

Jim woke me up when we got to the loft parking lot. I felt much better after the short nap.

“What do you feel like for dinner tonight?” I asked Jim as we walked up the stairs.

“Thai sounds good. Does that work for you?” Jim asked.

“Sure, that sounds great. I’ll order for both of us when we get up there.” I felt like the three flights were 20. The elevator was out of order and not expected to be fixed for another day or two. I only thought I was in good shape.

Jim opened up the door and walked in, throwing his key in the basket. He looked at the woven basket that I had bought for him and said, “Have I ever told you how much I really like this basket?”

I looked a little surprised at this, because I bought it two years before. “No, you’ve never mentioned how much you liked it. I’m glad. It’s perfect for our keys and the mail. I remember when I saw it, it screamed Jim.”

“Wow, a talking basket. I never knew.” Jim laughed and took his jacket off.

“What you’ve never heard of a talking basket?” I asked jokingly.

“There are a lot of things I don’t know, Professor,” Jim teased.

“You haven’t called me Professor since I got the badge. I missed it. I didn’t even know until tonight. Thanks.”

“I knew that. That are some things I know about you that you don’t even know,” Jim continued.

“Let me order dinner and then you can tell me what the fuck you’re talking about.” I picked up the phone and dialed the number from memory. I ordered our favorites and told them where to bring it and hung up.

Jim pulled two twenty dollar bills out and set them on the bar. “That’s for dinner and the tip.”

“No fair, you treated for lunch today, I owe you,” I reminded him.

“I know that this is the week that you had to pay for the car insurance and the new car payment. So this is a short week for you. Don’t worry about it.” Jim sat down in the living room.

“Want a beer?” I called out from the kitchen.

“What do you think?” Jim smiled at me and melted my heart into a puddle. What was I going to do about this?

I brought him a beer and took a drink of mine and said, “So what else do you know about me?”

“I know that you told Martha Carter no because you have feelings for someone else. You wouldn’t have passed her up a few months ago. But you have designs on someone new and he means something more than she does.”

“Whoa, this is the most I’ve heard you say in ages. Did you hit your head or anything while at work today?” It was my turn to tease now.

“I also know that when you’re nervous, you make jokes, like you’re doing right now.”

“Okay, you got me. I do have someone in mind. But I’m taking my time,” I declared.

“You don’t need to take your time. This man is probably crazy about you too. There is no need to wait. Ask him. See how he feels about you,” Jim suggested.

“What about you worrying about me getting my face punched out because I ask someone the wrong question?”

“No need to worry, he’s going to say yes, Blair. Just ask him.” Jim was so serious suddenly that it took me off guard.

Fuck, he knows. He knows it’s him. He had the knowledge, but was stringing me along the entire time.

“How long have you known it was you?” I asked.

“Honestly, I was hoping for about the last four months, but today I saw the look on your face from Simon’s office and I knew the look. It was my look. It was for only me and I knew.” Jim just sat there, not moving.

I moved closer to Jim and whispered, “I was afraid.”

“No need to ever be afraid with me, Blair.” Jim leaned in to me and gave me my first kiss. And I have to tell you, it was a knock-out kiss. I could hardly wait for what else was in store for me.

“You kiss like you look. Sleek, sexy and strong. Thank you for understanding me all along,” I confessed.

“Well, I have to tell you that I almost took out Martha Carter today. I really wanted to throw her down the stairwell. I wanted to see her broken body in a heap at the end of the stairs,” Jim admitted freely.

I laughed and kissed Jim again. I put all of my emotion into it and it must have worked because he was pushing me down on the sofa and laying across me within minutes. We no sooner got busy rubbing against each other when the delivery arrived.

Jim said, “Well fuck…” He got up and grabbed the money and opened the door just the way he was. Big ole boner sticking out in his jeans and everything. I couldn’t believe he was doing it, but yet, I admired him for not caring.

The man delivering couldn’t take the money fast enough. He glanced over at me once before he left, saw my messed up hair and I could tell he had a good story to tell at the end of the shift.

Jim put the Thai food on the table and said, “Come on, let’s eat.”

I walked in there with a matching boner from hell and he kissed me on the cheek as I sat down. I have to tell you, it was one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done to me. This man is going to be happy tonight and that’s all there was to it.

[[[[[ ]]]]]

When dinner was over, I helped clean up the kitchen and dining area. We were both trying to act nonchalant, but I don’t know if either of us pulled it off.

Once we were back in the living room Jim pulled me down on the sofa next to him and we began to make out like teenagers. God, he was making me feel so fucking good.

He stopped suddenly and said, “Would you like to move upstairs tonight?”

Have I mentioned how cute this man is? He was blushing as he asked it. “I would love to move upstairs tonight. Let’s start now.”

The two of us couldn’t move my things up to his room fast enough. Jim made room in his dresser and his closet, so fast my head was spinning. Jim looked over at me and looked a little alarmed. “Am I moving too fast for you, Chief?”

I hit his body with mine so hard that we both flew into his, or I guess it would be our bed. We both started taking clothes off as we tried to strip and stay on the bed at the same time. Before long we were actually naked.

Holey Moley. I’ve seen Jim naked before, but I’ve never seen him naked like this. This was for me. This wonderful hardon was for me alone. And I intended on tasting him right away. I moved down his body and took his cock into my mouth, listening to him moan the entire time. He didn’t talk much, but he could moan with the best of them. I was sucking and biting like mad. Before long, he said, “Chief!” and I knew he was warning me, but I didn’t care. I wanted to drink in every single drop he had. And just like that, he came in my mouth, whispering my name. Not Sandburg, not Chief, but Blair. Oh yeah, this man knew how to move me and I shot my load all over the bed. The man did it with his voice. Now that is a sexy voice.

Jim pulled me up into his arms and said, “I had hoped to last longer then that. Sorry.”

“What are you saying sorry for? You just made me come all over the bed with your sexy voice. Don’t apologize to me. You’re perfect in ever single way. Now let’s clean up my mess so I can lie in a dry spot.”

Jim picked up his boxers and wiped up the mess with them. I almost laughed, but knew it wasn’t the time or place for laughing. Instead I climbed on top of him and bit his neck.

“Blair, if you keep doing that, we’re going to never get any rest,” Jim complained.

“Sleep is overrated, I think.”

“Can I tell you something?” Jim asked.

I knew what he was going to say and I could hardly contain my smile.

“Of course you can tell me anything,” I said hopefully.

“I love you, Blair.”

“I love you. Oh God, I get good sex and I love you in one night. This is a new beginning for us. And I for one love the beginning. Now I can’t wait to see the middle and the end.”

Jim started to nibble my neck and I said, “I thought you wanted to rest.”

“You’re right, sleep is overrated.”

The end
